We recently asked recipients of our online newsletter to tell us what they want to know more about— how we can add value to their day.

The feedback feedback we received and questions people asked were valuable beyond individual responses, so we are sharing Dr. Peele’s answers to some of the questions below that are relevant to a wider community. (Names and personal information has been changed to protect individuals’ identity).

Your Questions Answered:

QUESTION 1:

I feel like with the videos I’ve watched you guys out out there isn’t nearly enough practical steps for overcoming addiction. As much as it’s great to debunk addiction – helping people change their preference for their strongly invested habit is still needed. Could really do with specific advice for more ambiguous addictions like porn (didn’t see anything on your YouTube channel for it specifically- it seems a very prevelent issue). Pretty much all the advice only just highlights how it supposedly hijacks your libido and other biological mechanisms.

QUESTION 2:

Your thoughts and opinions about the prevalence of cannabis stores. I disagree with the point of view often expressed that says legal= benign. Just interested in you (and Zach’s) thoughts on cost/benefit and so forth.

QUESTION 3:

I’ve mostly moved past my problematic drinking, but I still find myself falling into old habits and patterns of thinking. Aka, I easily slip back into the alcoholic identity/mindset. Before I realized I was doing this, it lead to several episodes of full on binging. I’ve heard so many podcasts on how to stop problematic substance use, benefits of stop, etc that I would be refreshing to hear what to expect once we’ve recovered and are trying to get on with normal life. Or how do I stop sabotaging myself? Thanks!

QUESTION 4:

Practical steps to deal with alcohol addiction (I am 84)

We hope you find these Q&As to be useful, and if you have any questions of your own that you would like to ask Stanton or Zach please let us know – we would love to hear from you.
